
In his new role, Richard’s work involves acting on behalf of P&I and H&M insurers, brokers, lawyers, and ports and harbours owners/managers/operators. His responsibilities include conducting damage investigations, preparing expert reports for arbitration and court proceedings, carrying out damage surveys and offering loss prevention support to marine insurers.
Richard brings more than 20 years of design consultancy experience in maritime structures, with additional expertise in the rail, bridges, domestic buildings and industrial sectors. His extensive background spans engineering management and design, structural assessments, asset management and providing recommendations for strengthening and remedial works.
Richard’s experience includes more than five years of experience as a specialist forensic investigator providing expert advice to insurance claims and legal disputes, and he has provided written witness statements to arbitration and adjudication proceedings.
Richard holds a BEng (Hons) and a Doctorate (PhD) in Civil Engineering from the University of Wales, Cardiff, complemented by professional credentials including Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE).
In his new position, Richard will lead Solis Marine’s Ports and Harbours offering, focusing on:
· Port Infrastructure damage investigations to consider causation and recommend repair approaches
· Expert reports for arbitration, litigation, and insurance claims
· Structural surveys for condition assessment, asset management strategies, compliance, and risk evaluation.
His appointment reinforces Solis Marine’s commitment to delivering high-quality expert services to the maritime, insurance, and legal sectors.
