As Head of Ports and Harbours at Solis Marine, Richard’s work involves acting on behalf of P&I and H&M insurers, brokers, lawyers, as well as owners, managers and operators of ports and harbours. His expertise covers port infrastructure such as reinforced concrete/sheet pile harbour walls, jetties, pontoons and brows, dolphins and mooring piles. Richard’s responsibilities include conducting damage investigations, preparing expert reports for arbitration and court proceedings, carrying out condition and damage surveys and offering loss prevention support to marine insurers.
Richard has over 20 years of experience as a civil and structural design consultant, leading the design and assessment of complex coastal and marine infrastructure. This included the use of advanced Finite Element Analysis tools, as well as specialist software for pile design and bespoke hand calculations. He was also responsible for conducting detailed structural inspections of existing marine infrastructure, both on foot and via watercraft, with support from diving teams to assess underwater elements.
Richard subsequently spent more than five years in engineering forensics with EFI Global and CCi/Rimkus, where he investigated structural failures and defects related to insurance and legal claims. His expertise includes forensic assessments of damage caused by vessel and vehicle impacts, fires, structural instability and collapses. Richard has produced expert reports to support insurance claim processes and legal proceedings, drawing on his deep engineering knowledge and research capabilities to support dispute resolution.
