Afri is a marine surveyor based in Jakarta, Indonesia, providing local representation forshipowners and insurers in relation to shipping incidents and casualties across the region.His work includes on-site and onboard attendance for damage assessment and coordinationof casualty response.
His salvage and wreck removal experience includes liaison with local authorities andcontractors, management of on-site operations and pollution response. He has workedclosely with salvage contractors on oil removal operations, overseeing hot-tappingprocedures, diving operations, container and cargo recovery and pollution risk mitigation.
Prior to joining Solis Marine, Afri spent over 15 years with Minton Treharne & Davies inSingapore, where he specialised as a bulk solid cargo consultant with particular expertise inself-heating coal and cargoes liable to liquefy. As Laboratory Manager, he was responsiblefor equipment calibration and testing for Transportable Moisture Limit, liquid limit, particlesize distribution and density. He developed significant experience across a broad range ofsurvey work, including distressed cargo management, container and containerised cargoinspections, grain and food cargo sampling, and oil, petroleum and chemical cargo surveys.
He began his career as a shipyard engineer in Indonesia, supervising ship repair and newvessel construction, before moving into marine survey work conducting general surveys forP&I and H&M insurers, shipowners, charterers and cargo underwriters.
