‘Rapid Replay’ supports Gibraltarian official accident investigation

Solis Marine’s Rapid Replay reconstruction tool has played its part in an official investigation carried out by the Gibraltar Government’s Office of the Marine Accident Investigation Compliance Officer.

On 29 August 2022, the bulk carrier ‘OS35’ collided with the LNG carrier ‘ADAM LNG’ in Gibraltar Bay, resulting in the subsequent grounding and loss of ‘OS35’.

To support the investigation, a Solis Marine Rapid Replay reconstruction was produced to show the positions and tracks of the colliding vessels and the other vessels transmitting Automatic Identification System (AIS) data located in the Western Anchorage at the time of the incident. This provided the investigators with information about the movements of the vessels in the absence of VDR data from either vessel.

Rapid Replay is Solis Marine’s custom-built online platform, developed in collaboration with industry leading AIS service provider MariTrace©. Rapid Replay gives the user complete control over the reconstruction clarifying events in the immediate aftermath of an incident, or providing in-depth analysis during complex ongoing incident investigations.
