Welcome to our latest edition of ALONGSIDE, our regular newsletter with articles and updates from around the Solis Marine Group.
We begin this edition by shining a spotlight on the expert witness capabilities within our team of naval architects. With over 150 years of combined experience in the marine, offshore renewable energy and alternative fuels industries our naval architects can not only assist with expert opinion on shipping incidents, but we can also support legal proceedings relating to offshore renewable projects, disputes around alternative fuels and vessel design.
We then look at two areas where we have expanded our team and, in the process, expanded our geographical reach and range of services. We recently established a strategic presence in Durban, South Africa, and we’ve now added to this office through the appointment of Marine Engineer Brendon George. Within the UK we have recruited into our London team Richard Hadcroft as Head of our newly established Crane Engineering Services. Here we have included a brief introduction to Richard to announce his appointment and we will be including an interview and amore comprehensive look at his background and experience in the next Newsletter.
Andy McManus joined us earlier in the summer as we looked to grow our global marine engineering team, and in the next article Andy looks at issues centred on the installation and use of scrubbers. We then announce the arrival of two student interns who have joined us in our fast growing Engineering office in Falmouth.
Next we focus on the latest addition to our worldwide network of Alliance Partners, New Zealand-based South Maritime Solutions. This item is then followed by a paper by Alvin Forster, our Head of Marine Engineering Services, who looks at methanol as a front runner in the race to adopt alternative fuels to meet the targets for decarbonisation set by the IMO.
Finally we end with an article from our Singapore based Naval Architect, Jun Hao Liew, who looks at the issue of numerical accuracy in computational fluid dynamics.
We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to follow up on any of the articles or news items.
