ALONGSIDE newsletter - June 2025 edition

Nigel Clark welcomes you to June 2025 edition of ALONGSIDE newsletter.

Welcome to our latest edition of ALONGSIDE, our regular newsletter with articles and updates from around the Solis Marine Group.

We begin this edition with the news that Solis Marine has joined the recently established “Future Autonomous at Sea Technologies” cluster, bringing together organisations focussed on the further development of sustainable future at sea technologies.

We then reflect on our busiest ever year for salvage andwreck removal activities and highlight some of our significant cases. Our casualty management team includes four Special Casualty Representatives(“SCRs”), in addition to experienced Master Mariners, Marine Engineers and Naval Architects and we continue to grow our capabilities in this area to support our clients.

Jun Hao Liew is one of our Singapore based Naval Architects and in the next item he provides an update to his PhD project on the subject of ammonia dispersion during ship bunkering. This is followed by news that our bespoke incident reconstruction tool “Rapid Replay” has been used to support an official casualty investigation in Gibraltar.

In support of the Mission to Seafarers, Shann Kong, Jun Hao Liew and Andrew Ling from our Singapore office completed the Adventure Race in Japan, and through their efforts raised sponsorship to support this worthy cause.

Our next item describes our Engineering teams’ collaboration with a number of industry partners on a concept design for a next generation, offshore floating wind installation vessel. We then follow this with news of two more appointments to the Solis Group as we expand our Marine Engineering team with the addition of Andrew McManus, who joins us in the UK, and Brendon George, who will be based in Durban, South Africa.

Within this Newsletter we invite you to sign-up to join us at an upcoming seminar event, “Future Fuels: Navigating Legal and PracticalChallenges”. Co-organised with Hill Dickinson and Maritime London the seminar will be held on 16th July 2025, with registrations from 3.30pm. And finally, we announce Solis Marine’s participation in The Marine Technology Trust’s internship programme for 2025.

We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter, and we look forward to bringing you our next edition after the summer.
